Pride, Family, and the Table We Share

Pride Month is something that is deeply personal to me.

My name is Gerardo Padilla, and I serve as the Chief Operating Officer of Perla Mexican Cuisine. Perla is more than a restaurant. It is my family's dream brought to life. My mom, Laura Fabiola Diaz, serves as our Chief Executive Officer and Executive Chef, and my sister, Ana Laura Padilla, serves as our Chief Financial Officer. Together, we have built something that reflects who we are, where we come from, and the values that have shaped us.

Family has always been my center. They have provided support, guidance, encouragement, and opportunities that have helped me become the man I am today. The fact that I get to work alongside them every day in a business that represents our culture, traditions, and passions is something I never take for granted.

Perla started the same way many family dreams do: with an idea.

What began as conversations around the dinner table became a restaurant dedicated to sharing the food, hospitality, and traditions that have always existed in our own home. Many of the dishes we serve are inspired by family recipes, memories, and the meals that brought us together long before Perla ever opened its doors.

One of the things I love most about our family is that we all come from different professional backgrounds. My mother is a Mexican attorney with an incredible passion for cooking. My sister is an entrepreneur and accountant. I am a civil engineer by profession. While our careers may be different, we are connected by our love for Mexican culture, our work ethic, and our desire to create meaningful experiences for others.

This month is especially meaningful because I am proud of who I am.

I am proud of the support my family has given me. I am proud of the path they helped create for me. And I am proud to serve in a leadership position at Perla while being my authentic self.I am a proud Mexican gay man.

Being gay does not define me, but it is a part of who I am, and it is a part of my story that I am proud to share. My identity has shaped my experiences, strengthened my resilience, and deepened my appreciation for community, acceptance, and belonging.

Perla is another part of my story that I am incredibly proud of.

Every day, I have the opportunity to represent my culture, serve my community, and work alongside the people who mean the most to me. I am grateful for that privilege.

As we celebrate Pride Month, I want to express my gratitude to my family, especially my mother and my sisters, for their unconditional support and belief in me. I also want to thank the community that continues to support Perla and the people behind it.

Our doors have always been open to everyone.

Perla is, and will continue to be, a place where all people are welcomed, valued, and treated with respect. We believe that hospitality begins with acceptance, and that the best conversations happen around a table where everyone has a seat.

Orgullo, Familia y la Mesa que Compartimos

Pride Month (Mes de Orgullo) es algo muy personal para mí.

Mi nombre es Gerardo Padilla y tengo el honor de ser el Director de Operaciones de Perla Mexican Cuisine. Perla es mucho más que un restaurante. Es el sueño de nuestra familia hecho realidad. Mi mamá, Laura Fabiola Díaz, es nuestra Directora Ejecutiva y Chef Ejecutiva, y mi hermana, Ana Laura Padilla, es nuestra Directora Financiera. Juntos hemos construido algo que refleja quiénes somos, de dónde venimos y los valores que nos han guiado toda la vida.

La familia siempre ha sido el centro de mi vida. Ha sido mi apoyo, mi guía, mi inspiración y la fuerza que me ha permitido convertirme en la persona que soy hoy. Poder trabajar junto a ellas todos los días en un proyecto que representa nuestra cultura, nuestras tradiciones y nuestras pasiones es algo en lo cual que me siento privilegiado.

Perla comenzó de la misma manera que comienzan muchos sueños familiares: con una idea.

Lo que empezó como conversaciones alrededor de la mesa se convirtió en un restaurante dedicado a compartir la comida, la hospitalidad y las tradiciones que siempre han existido en nuestro hogar. Muchos de los platillos que servimos están inspirados en recetas familiares, recuerdos y momentos que nos unieron mucho antes de que Perla abriera sus puertas.

Una de las cosas que más admiro de nuestra familia es que todos venimos de trayectorias profesionales muy diferentes. Mi mamá es abogada mexicana y tiene una pasión enorme por la cocina. Mi hermana es contadora y emprendedora. Yo soy ingeniero civil. Aunque nuestras profesiones son distintas, estamos unidos por algo mucho más grande: el amor por nuestra cultura mexicana, nuestra ética de trabajo y el deseo de crear experiencias significativas para los demás.

Este mes tiene un significado muy especial para mí porque estoy orgulloso de quien soy.

Estoy orgulloso del apoyo que mi familia me ha brindado. Estoy orgulloso del camino que ayudaron a construir para mí. Y estoy orgulloso de poder ocupar una posición de liderazgo en Perla siendo auténticamente yo mismo.

Soy un hombre mexicano y gay del que me siento profundamente orgulloso.

Ser gay no me define por completo, pero sí es una parte de mí y de mi historia que comparto con orgullo. Mi identidad ha moldeado mis experiencias, fortalecido mi carácter y reforzado mi aprecio por la comunidad, la aceptación y el sentido de pertenencia.

Perla también es una parte de mí de la que me siento enormemente orgulloso.

Cada día tengo la oportunidad de representar mi cultura, servir a mi comunidad y trabajar junto a las personas que más amo. Es un privilegio que agradezco profundamente.

En este Mes del Orgullo, quiero expresar mi gratitud a mi familia, especialmente a mi mamá y a mis hermanas, por su amor incondicional, su apoyo y la confianza que siempre han depositado en mí. También quiero agradecer a la comunidad que continúa apoyando a Perla y a las personas que estamos detrás de este proyecto.

Nuestras puertas siempre han estado abiertas para todos.

Perla es, y seguirá siendo, un espacio donde todas las personas son bienvenidas, valoradas y tratadas con respeto. Creemos que la hospitalidad comienza con la aceptación y que las mejores conversaciones suceden alrededor de una mesa donde todos tienen un lugar.
